Question
My jasmine was thriving until about two weeks ago. All of a sudden the ends have started dying, cracking, turning brown. What is happening, and how do I save them? Help!
Answer
Thanks for sending photos of your jasmine for me to review. The split bark is typical of freeze damage and looking at the historical weather patterns for your area it seems you had some really cold weather in mid-March this year. It takes a few weeks for the severity of the damage to become obvious. The good news is that the lower parts of your vine appear to still be healthy. Carefully prune off everything above the split stems and the remaining vine should continue to thrive.
Good luck – and let’s hope the weather is settled now for spring!
