Question

HOW DO I SHAPE MY VINTAGE JADE?

Answer

Thanks for your question, Judy! I’m envious that you live in an area where you can plant distylium!

I live in zone 4, so I don’t have the pleasure. I reached out to my friends at First Editions to help you get the mounding shape you’re hoping to get from your Vintage Jade plant, and here it is:

Looking at the new growth, snip it back so there are still a few leaves on the branch close to the base. At that point, it will push out new branches and will be more rounded in shape. You could do the whole plant or about 1/3 of the branches. I would probably just prune a 1/3 of the long branches and see how it looks and fills in this spring.

Happy Gardening!
