If you just planted your ninebark this year, leave it be and wait until next year. Ninebarks are tough plants and can be pruned most any time. However, so you don’t cut off the flower buds, wait until after they flower in the spring or early summer. It’s best to make the cut just above the foliage bud. At this point, it will grow new branches.
