Question
Can you use coffee grounds to fertilize?

Answer
Wendy,
I have many friends who add coffee grounds to their compost pile, filter and all, with good results. As with all things added to the compost pile, you want to have a good balance of ingredients – both green and brown. Coffee grounds are considered a green since they are a source of nitrogen. Just don’t get too excited about their being a good source of acid as the pH of the grounds is actually closer to neutral. Write back later in the season and let me know the results.
Best,
Ryan
