Question

How and when should I prune BloomStruck® Hydrangeas?

Answer

BloomStruck® is quite the beautiful hydrangea, isn’t it? Those dark stems really set off the colorful blooms. You’ll be happy to know that pruning it is very straightforward as BloomStruck® blooms both on the growth it made last year and the growth that it will produce this year. The best time to prune is between Mother’s Day and early June at which time, unless you need to prune to control the overall height or to create a more pleasing shape, just cut back to the uppermost fat green buds on the stems as these will flower first. The green buds at the base of the shrub will bloom later this year. Watch our video on spring pruning to see how to do just that.
