Question

How do I get rid of grasshoppers in my garden bed?

Answer

We feel your pain! Grasshoppers can eat through so much of our hard work in the garden. There are a few ways we suggest approaching this pest issue. First, mix in a number of plants that grasshoppers just don’t like (crapemyrtle, salvia, juniper, etc.) or plant tall ornamental grasses that they do prefer (so they hang out there instead of your garden). Second, attract specific birds that like to eat grasshoppers (larks, kestrels, blue birds) to help control the population. Or finally, try an insect repellant like neem oil, hot pepper wax, or garlic spray to keep them out of your garden altogether. And if you want some more immediate results, try a combination of all three! I hope this helps.
