Question
I have a couple endless summer hydrangeas and they never bloom until end of Sept. early October. What do I need to do to get them to bloom earlier in the summer to be able to enjoy the blooms more than a month before a frost. I gave acidic fertilizer but maybe not doing it correctly or enough.
Answer
There are a few reasons you might not see blooms until later in the season: winter damage to old wood buds, pruning or watering challenges, misapplying fertilizer, etc. Here’s a video that walks through some of the most common reasons you might not see blooms and the solutions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkuyY2-UfDI.
One thing to also note is that acidifier and fertilizer are two separate things. Here’s another video to explain the difference and how/when to use them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY6Sb0dPl3g.
