MINE (HYDRANGEA) HASN’T BLOOMED IN SEVERAL YEARS. THE PLANT LOOKS FANTASTIC, JUST DOES NOT BLOOM. IT’S 9 YEARS OLD.
There are a few reasons why a plant looks great but doesn’t flower. A soil test will tell you if the soil is high in nitrogen but low in phosphorous. Phosphorous, the middle number on the NPK ratio on fertilizer bags, helps plants produce flowers. A plant that is high in nitrogen will grow lush leaves and few flowers. Another cause of no flowers is pruning at the wrong time and cutting off the flower buds. Also, many plants need sunlight to produce flowers. Our hydrangea planting and care guide is full of gardening tips to help you grow gorgeous flowers.
